Top 3 Healthy Cookery Books

Quinoa Risotto from Helmsley & HelmsleyOver the last year, the healthy cookery book scene has literally exploded.

I think this explosion is partly down to the popularity of food blogs, the rise in Instagram and Society’s general shift in attitude as to what it means to be healthy. These factors along with others, has brought healthy eating to the forefront of many people’s minds.

This rise in popularity and interest is of course only a good thing (in my opinion), however I have been surprised at the high percentage of these ‘healthy cookery books’ which are complied by (for the want of a better phrase) ‘non-professionally trained chefs / cooks’.

My experience of following healthy recipes from self proclaimed food bloggers has been a mixed bag. Some have been absolutely fantastic, some  pretty awful (just ask my husband!).

Exercise Detox

DSC_7133 (2)The chances are you have been really good through January and managed to stick to your New Year Resolutions – first of all, well done for that! As I said in my Food Detox blog, although I do not usually recommend detoxs per-say, for some of you it maybe the only time of year where you review your current state of health and fitness, so it is worth capitalising on the opportunity! Now into February, typically those ‘good intentions’ have slipped away a little, or a lot! The real trick to leading a healthy life, is to have a sustainable routine that works for you, your life and your body. The best thing about exercise is that there is an enormous choice of sports, gyms, classes and activities you can partake in. It just takes a bit of time and willingness to try new things out in order to find your exercise match.

Body Confidence: The Music Industry

Lisa Friend

I have just begun a series of interviews about body confidence, body image and losing weight for my show ‘Real Health with Rebecca Dalby‘ for the fantastically inspirational radio station, Astute Radio.

I kicked off this important series by starting a conversation with Lisa Friend, a world renown solo concert flautist and recording artist.

In this straight talking, honest interview, Lisa shares her experiences and pressures she faces within the classical music industry, performing on stage and becoming a mother. This year Lisa had hip surgery due to degenerative arthritis and is now in a period of rehabilitation whilst still working and taking care of her young family.

Food DetoxFollowing on from last week’s blog ‘Digital Detox‘, next up is food. What you eat is vitally important and has a direct effect on your body and your health. After all the festivities, most of us have indulged some what! It is highly likely (!) that even if you try to be good during this time, you still end up eating more sugary treats, alcohol, fatty foods and less vegetables and fruit. Although I do not recommend extreme detox’s, at this time of the year, I think a sensible detox can be a great way to get you back on track and re-balance your body. Let’s face it, it maybe the only time of year where you review what you eat, so it is worth capitalising on the opportunity!

IMG_1715Happy New Year to you! I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and caught up on sleep, family and friends. These are my three favourite things which the festive season often delivers in abundance!

Each Christmas me and my husband collectively receive a stack of books offering inspiration and insights on an array of subjects. I have tucked into ‘Unplugged – how to live mindfully in a digital world‘ by Orianna Fielding. Although this is pretty ironic considering I am writing this blog on my Macbook and once I finish writing I will share the blog over social media etc, but hang on in there…..

SpinningWell Happy Christmas! At the beginning of the Christmas week and on the verge of going back to my parents, I have been thinking about my exercise routine. Amongst the festivities exercise can go completely out of the window, but over the last few years I have actually developed a habit of keeping active every day through Christmas.

With plans to develop Strala Yoga website and cultivate Strala communities across the globe, Strala has become more than just one great Yoga teacher, it’s a movement.

Bee Pollen

IMG_1493Bee pollen sprung onto my breakfast scene earlier this year when my sister-in-law brought me some back from Spain. Admittedly I had not heard about its ‘superfood’ status before. Since then I have noticed it pop up in some health food shops and cafes in London.  This is no surprise as these tiny balls are packed full of goodness and an easy addition to your meals, particularly breakfast.
